Chapter 1.

Statue Of Liberty
 No.

Yes this is Statue of Liberty, the most famous landmark of New York, USA. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

Chapter 2.

No.

That is not exactly the one I intend to propose.

That is of course the famous unrecognized Sabahans people (illegals - mostly Filipinos) dwelling at  Pulau Gaya. And of course they provide cheap labour in Kota Kinabalu for decades. But, I am not highlighing this one too.

Pulau Gaya in Sabah

Pulau Gaya and area around it.
This article is proposing a new land mark for Sabah: Land Below the Wind to be erected in Pulau Gaya.

These few supporting reasons would be acceptable for the erection of new Landmark.

1. The landmark is definitely a windmill, as it is Sabah's uniquely named for the wind. And as a supporting vision for the green technology policy by Malaysia government. Thus, study should be carried out whether the wind at this location would meet the technology's requirement.

2. Pulau Gaya is naturally blessed with its beauty in marine thus flourishing the tourism sector. As Sabah land is mostly bordered with the sea almost from all directions, a similar pattern of Pulau Gaya will definitely picture the Sabah state as a marine heaven on earth.

3.Historically, Pulau Gaya was also the site of the English colonialist's British North Borneo Company's harbour, razed by the folk hero Mat Salleh in 1881.

4.The view from the main land will be more awesome! Especially from Kota Kinabalu waterfront. And expand the waterfront too.

5.As an expansion for Kota Kinabalu City, which was granted name as Bandar Hutan Rimba ( is it? ). The city is too pack during weekends, but providing a getaway place to Pulau Gaya, Kota Kinabalu 2: Bandar Marin dan Hijau, people will have options between relaxing weekends or the hectic busy city life.

6. To have a reason to cleanse the island from illegal citizens.

7. Build a Green Research and Development Centre on the Island. They already has the Marine Research Centre here. Develop the island as a park. Provide jogging and cycling trails, provide sea sports centre for sports such as banana boat, water jet ski and everything. Build a marine and green museum. Build a conventional buildings, hotels and chalet with a limited space,so that other portion of the island would be useful for other facility development.

8. People will have more activities other than doing the typical snorkeling and scuba diving. ( Pulau Gaya is a part of Tungku Abdul Rahman's archipelago famously known for its sea activities )

9. Kota Kinabalu is the main city of Sabah.  Once tourists arrived to Kota Kinabalu and Pulau Gaya, they are already at least fulfill their quest on 'Sabah : Marine Heaven on Earth' and 'Sabah: Land Below the Wind'. But surely there are more quest available such as, 'Sabah: The World Oldest Rainforest', 'Sabah: The Highest Mountain in Malaysia' and so on.

10. It will be awesome!
Illegal Villages

Eastern part of Pulau Gaya, illegals.

Zoomed!
What to do. The nearest portion of the island adjacent to the mainland is highly populated with illegals. But it is also the best site of one of the windmill, and entry to the island in the future of Kota Kinabalu 2.
